Imposter

One word. One imposter. Zero trust.

Think you can lie to your friends? Imposter is the party game of bluffing, suspicion, and chaotic accusations. Everyone sees the secret word, except the Imposter. Talk your way out, read the room, and try not to get exposed. Or if you’re the Imposter: fake it till you make it.

How to play

Gather your group around a single phone. Each player takes a turn viewing their card privately. Most players see the same secret word, but the Imposter sees nothing.

Then, each player gives exactly one word as a clue related to the secret word. Here’s where it gets tricky: if your clue is too obvious, you’re handing the answer to the Imposter on a silver platter. Too vague? Now the whole group thinks you’re the one faking it. Every word you say is a risk.

After all clues are given, the discussion begins. Question each other, call out suspicious clues, and build your case. Then the group votes on who they think the Imposter is. Get it right, and the group wins. Get it wrong, and the Imposter walks free.

But there’s a twist: if the Imposter figures out the secret word before getting caught, they can steal the win. So even after being exposed, the game isn’t over.

Why everyone gets hooked

Every round plays out differently. Sometimes the Imposter gets caught in the first 10 seconds because they panicked and said something ridiculous. Other times, they blend in so well that the group turns on each other instead.

You’ll hear “Wait… why did you say THAT?” at least five times per round. You’ll watch friendships get tested over a single suspicious word. You’ll see someone give the most confident wrong answer in history. And you’ll definitely accuse the wrong person at least once.

It’s the kind of game that turns quiet people into master interrogators and loud people into terrible liars. Nobody plays the same way twice, and every round ends with someone yelling.

About this app

Imposter was built by Vanilla, a small studio behind some of the most popular party games on mobile. If you’ve played Truth or Dare, Never Have I Ever, or Would You Rather on your phone, chances are it was one of ours. Imposter is the newest addition to the lineup, and it might be the most chaotic one yet.
